Women Team Nigeria at the Barcelona 92 Olympics

This photo won Ken Geiger a Pulitzer (1993). The amazing emotion from the female Nigerian 4 x 100m Olympic team (Beatrice Utondu, Faith Idehen, Mary Onyali and Christy Opara-Thompson) when they found out that they won bronze in a race they were largely seen as non-existent underdogs is something worth watching over again.

Celebrate Nigeria!

This video will continue to remain a symbol of victory, a reminder that you don’t have to come in first to win.

P.S: Mary Onyali later would go on to win female 200m bronze at Atlanta ’96, eventually appearing in 5 consecutive Olympic Games, and is one of the most celebrated female track and field athletes in Nigeria.
