Olurotimi Badero – the world’s first combined heart and kidney specialist


Olurotimi Badero (MD, FACP, FASN, FACC, FSCAI) is the world’s first combined heart and kidney specialist. Born to Eliab Olufemi Olujoyi Badero and Stella Taiwo Badero, the seventh of nine children , he attended St Mary’s private school Lagos and Federal Government College Odogbolu Ogun state (1988) where he along with Debo Ademola and Folake Ojiekere won the nationwide Science Quiz Competition in 1988. He had his university education in the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (1997).


After his service year at the OAU Teaching Hospital Ile-ife, Olurotimi Badero performed the mandatory National Youth Service at General Hospital Isolo Lagos then relocated to the United States where he trained in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, invasive and interventional cardiology, nephrology and hypertension, interventional nephrology & endovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology and peripheral vascular interventions (now that’s a lot of knowledge!). He trained in centers such as University of New York Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Yale University School of Medicine. He performed the first transradial cardiac catherterisation and coronary angioplasty at the Central Mississippi Medical Center.

He is has a fellowship from the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Nephrology, the American College of Physicians and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. He is a recipient of many awards including The Association of Black Cardiologist Scholarship (Best Cardiology Fellow in the United States), 2014 Mississippi Healthcare Heroes list.


He is the founder of Cardiac, Renal and Vascular Associates, the Medical Director of St. Joseph Hospice and on the global advisory board of the therapeutics experts on Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis, Merck Pharmaceuticals U.S.A.

Olurotimi Badero is also the assistant pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of GOD, Vine Chapel, Jackson Mississippi and an avid painter
